A contract worth XOF 374,732,464 has been formally awarded by the Benin government, with funding from the World Bank, to carry out Phase 2 of the West Africa Unique Identification for Regional Integration and Inclusion (WURI) Project. The project is a regional endeavour with the goal of improving economic integration, governance, and social inclusion throughout Western and Central Africa.

The Benin
Under the WURI regional framework, the contract that was awarded includes consulting and data system development services to support Benin's national identification system implementation.
The project aims to:
Create and implement a strong national digital identity system;
enable the recognition of identification credentials across borders;
Encourage social protection and financial inclusion initiatives with safe and authenticated identification;
Boost regional cooperation among ECOWAS member states for mobility, trade, and governance.
The World Bank funds the multi-country West Africa Unique Identification for Regional Integration and Inclusion (WURI) programme.
In order to guarantee that all citizens of Benin, Burkina Faso, CΓ΄te d'Ivoire, Niger, Ghana, and Togo can access public and private services using a reliable digital identity, it seeks to establish fundamental identification systems in each of these countries.
In order to guarantee universal coverage, phase two of the project is concentrated on improving system interoperability, fortifying institutional frameworks, and assisting with national rollouts.

Benin's WURI Phase 2 project is a significant step towards an integrated and digitally inclusive West Africa.
The project supports the following by guaranteeing that each person has access to a safe and authentic form of identification:
enhanced availability of digital services and social safety nets,
increased regional mobility, as well as
openness in the financial and governance systems.
